By downloading or using the Swipe app, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide Directly
- Account information: Full name, email address, password
- Profile information: Date of birth, gender, height, body type, place of residence, relationship goals, religion, drinking habits, education, interests, and photo caption
- Photos: Profile photos you upload (up to 6 photos)
- Identity verification: Ghana Card (National ID) front and back photos, and card number — used solely for account verification
- Match preferences: Age range, preferred gender, body types, languages, and other compatibility preferences
- Messages: Text messages, images, videos, and voice messages sent through the in-app chat
- Referral source: How you heard about Swipe
Information Collected Automatically
- Device information: Device type, operating system, and unique device identifiers
- Push notification token: Used to deliver notifications about matches, likes, and account status updates
- App usage data: Swipe actions (like/dislike), screen views, and feature interactions
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account
- Show your profile to potential matches of the opposite gender
- Calculate compatibility scores between users based on shared interests and preferences
- Verify your identity using your Ghana Card to maintain a safe, genuine community
- Send push notifications for likes, matches, and account status updates
- Enable real-time messaging between matched users
- Review and approve or reject profiles (human admin review process)
- Enforce our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines
- Improve the app and user experience
3. Information Sharing
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
What Other Users Can See
Your profile — including your name, age, photos, bio, interests, and location (city/town level only) — is visible to other approved users of the opposite gender for matching purposes. Your email address, Ghana Card details, and exact location are never shown to other users.
Service Providers
We use the following trusted services to operate the app:
- Google Firebase — authentication, database, storage, and push notifications (Google LLC, USA)
- Expo (by Expo Inc.) — mobile app infrastructure and push notification delivery
These providers process data only on our behalf and are bound by confidentiality agreements.
Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and the public.
4. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely on Google Firebase servers. We implement the following security measures:
- All data transmitted between the app and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS
- Firestore security rules restrict access so users can only read and write their own data
- Firebase Authentication handles all password storage using industry-standard hashing
- Admin access to user profiles is restricted to authorised personnel only
- Ghana Card photos are stored in a separate restricted storage location not accessible to regular users
While we strive to protect your data, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. Data Retention
We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account:
- Your profile, photos, and match history are permanently deleted within 30 days
- Messages are deleted from our servers
- Ghana Card verification photos are deleted immediately upon account deletion
- Aggregated, anonymised analytics data may be retained indefinitely
6. Your Rights & Choices
You have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction: Update or correct inaccurate profile information at any time via the Edit Profile screen
- Deletion: Delete your account and all associated data by contacting us
- Withdraw consent: Revoke notification permissions at any time in your device settings
- Opt out: Stop using the app and request data deletion at any time

7. Children's Privacy
Swipe is strictly for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. Age is verified during registration, and profiles are reviewed by our admin team before approval. If we discover that a user is under 18, their account will be immediately terminated and all data deleted.

9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via a push notification or an in-app message. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.
